Melbourne Cup means a rare day off from school and work. A day all about horses but we took the chance to escape the races and head towards a favourite place of ours where we normally try to visit at least a couple of times a year. Heide Museum of Modern Art is a great place to both experience art but also their wonderful grounds filled with sculptures and wonderful picnic hills and fields. We stocked up on some yummy treats and baguettes at their nice cafe, Cafe Vue and then we headed towards some shade trees and took in the sights of their sculpture garden.
Kids love it here.. there is so much space to run around at, and some of the sculptures are allowed to explore and climb on. There are also an excellent nature area with great trees for climbing which makes it fun for all ages. If you have a bit older kids I would also recommend taking them into see the several great art exhibition they have there. This place reminds me of Louisiana in Denmark - a wonderful art gallery which I miss very much, but coming here makes the longing a bit easier and we always leave full of inspiration.
